My name is Martin Sonia, a professional translator. I have been working with the GENGO team since 2014.

I’m a German-English Translator with a strong background in translating technical, general, medical, legal, marketing and business domain texts, writing for Meta description & Titles (SEO), articles blog posts, social media posts and other branded copy. Whether you need a formal, serious tone or a more playful one, I can make the transition with ease. I have done till C1.2 Level of German language from Berlin, Germany and hold Bachelor's degree in German Hons. I have studied English<>German translation as main subject for 3 years. As I have lived in Germany and Austria, I am having near-native German language skills and well aware of German culture. For around 6 years I have been engaged as full time professional German language expert in working directly with numerous German & Austrian clients (incl. Siemens, Volkswagen, BMW, Deutsche Post, Erste Bank, Vienna Insurance Group etc.), so I am accustomed to working with all sorts of German language related work including translations.

I grew up in Germany and have visited my huge American family in the US State Ohio every year for a month, give or take. I have been fluent in English since 1989. I have worked for a medical device producer for over a total of 3 years, translating regulations and processes required by the ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR 820. I have spent a month going over the new MDSAP guideline. I studied the subjects German and English to teach it at the Gymnasium, which is the equivalent to an academic high school. I will go back to teaching in February, but since I miss working with languages in a more direct way, I want to keep translating different projects. I am also a major modern literature fan and would not mind translating (short) stories, either.

A native German speaker, I am fluent in English, live in Germany, where I have studied for a master in social sciences and philosophy and worked in the corporate world in various positions. I am working as a professional freelance translator since 2008 with my language pairs being English and French as source languages and German as target language. Being very experienced in the fields of journalism, marketing, advertising, public relations, travel, tourism, games, cooking and culinary I have translated and revised for translation agencies like Jonckers, translated.net, onehourtranslation.com, Motaword, Language Support Centre, Denmark, alphatranslations and customers like Photography Collection LLC and Enigma advertising.
